Bungie’s been rapping up its last project in the Halo franchise, Halo: Reach. The studio as admitted in the past that it will miss the franchise, however the last will be their biggest effort yet.
But before they settled on Halo: Reach, other titles were under consideration. Bungie Community Director Brian Jarrard, has said in the past that the team ran through many different ideas, but in the end, Reach, a game takes place directly before the events of the first title, Halo: Combat Evolved, was what the finally settled on.
“Even before the idea to build a game based around Reach came about, a lot of other concepts were explored, up to and including a proper Halo 4, where Master Chief was going to wake up from cryo-sleep and we were going to tell that story,” Jarrard told MTV Multiplayer.
In the end, however, “just wasn’t as interesting to the team to just pick up where that left off and all the baggage that came with it.” On the flip side, Bungie was also nervous about developing a game with an entirely new story, being that it was their last.
“We don’t want to open up a whole bunch of doors that we’re not going to close,” Jarrard continued. “By the end of this, it’s all going to come to a nice, neat finish, and if people want to then go play the Halo trilogy, I think they’ll have a better understanding of what’s going on, but it’s not required at all.”
Thanks, Industry Gamers.

i like the idea of going back to a well known series and tell the story of how it all started.
though ive never been a halo fan, combat evolved was ok but 2, 3, ODST and wars bored the %$#@ out of me!
i like this new trend were seeing of prequels, even the new GOW ghost of Sparta game which is taking us back between GOW1 and 2 and explaining what happened between then.
though id like to see a new ps3 game explaining what happened before kratos became the ghost of Sparta, explain his childhood, explain his family, show what happens in his life right up until he begs ares for help at the beginning of GOW1.
Yeah, I’m actually excited about the story of Reach. Looking forward to what Bungie was able to accomplish there.
yeah it should be interesting to see how the story links from reach to combat evolved.
i love it when series do this, more need to do it this way that way you can reflect back and say oh this is how it started.
that i think is what made star wars one of the most influential and popular movies of all time!
if they did it the traditional way and started with TPM it would of not been anywhere near as successful.
