Development On PC Less “Restrictive” Than On Consoles Says Bioware

Bioware’s Daniel Erickson believes that the PC platform is less restrictive than consoles, and according to him, it’ll remain the developers lead development platform.

He said this while speaking to CVG recently.

“Every two or three years we hear the announcement of fantasy being dead, PC gaming being dead and RPGs being dead,” he said. “And yet, all of the biggest games that ever come out – that set the records – are nearly always PC games, and a lot of them are fantasy games.”

“The biggest game in the world is a fantasy, PC, RPG MMO. We all know the drawbacks of PC. We all scream at our boxes and try to make stuff work. But at the same time, the interface is made for games. The mouse/keyboard interface allows so much less restriction [than console].

There was not a question when we started Old Republic – or any of our games, for that matter – [what the lead format would be]. There’s a reason the lead SKU for Dragon age was [PC] as well.”

Erickson believes that when it comes to developing a RPG, the PC is a “natural” place to be.

“When we’re developing an RPG, it’s a natural place to be”

Star Wars: The Old Republic, Bioware’s latest project is slated to land on the PC platform exclusively.

of course its the least restrictive, i mean games were kinda born on PCs.
saying that is like saying its easier to drive a car on a road than on the surface of the moon.
    hmmmmmmmm i wonder why!
the only reason people say PC gaming is dead because it served one purpose and now that purpose is gone!
PC games use to be heads and sholders above console games, there use to be a MASSIVE! difference between PC graphics and consoles.
    not any more!
in the past 4 years both the ps3 and 360 have had a game a year roughly come out and reset whats possible on consoles.
    PC?
thats been stuck on the same bar since crysis came out!
thats why i wish i never built my gaming PC that was a massive waste of cash!
my old PC could run crysis fine, i only upgraded because i thought RAGE and half life 2 epp 3 were coming this year and id need the extra power.
im really disappointed in PC gaming this gen, back in the day you litterally needed a new card every few months thats how fast games were evolving.
now were lucky if we see any advancement on PC once a year, compare to once every 3 or so months last gen.
there use to be a thousand mile gap between PC and consoles now its like a mile gap, some could argue uncharted 2 or GOW3 look better than any PC game out there!

I know you love the PC Nick… We need to start a petition forcing devs to bring back the love! what do you say?

    good luck!
devs dont care, you could flood there offices with petitions and they would just ignore us.
its too difficult to make a game for PC than adjust it for consoles because you would have to cut out allot of things.
and you cant make a PC exclusive because its so expensive, not to mention piracys a issue, not to mention games normally sell the lowest on PCs.
id love for PCs to go back to the way they were, but i can see why they wont.
