I knew it from the onset. Even before Red Dead Redemption started garnering critical praise, we here at Games Thirst covered the game from its early stages, noting the potential of it becoming a huge it.
Well not only has the game outdid Rockstar’s forecast, they’re also struggling to keep the game stocked; and now it’s becoming the studio’s biggest new franchise yet.
In its earnings call yesterday, Take-Two revealed that Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption sold (to retail) five million copies worldwide since it launched three weeks ago.
It was Rockstar’s most ambitious effort yet which, according to Mike Hickey of Janco Partners, cost the studio $70 million to develop. The analyst also noted that in order for Rockstar to break even, they needed to sell at least 4 million copies of RDR, so with these results made public, that ambitious project has paid dividends.
