God of War III director, Stig Asmussen had his own vision of how he wanted the last installment in the venerable series to end, and he did exactly what was necessary to see that vision come to pass. However if the former directors of the first two games, David Jaffe and Cory Barlong had their way, we would have witnessed an entirely different finish.
Here’s how God of War III would conclude if Davide Jaffe or Cory Barlog were directing it.
Speaking in an in depth interview with Gamepro Magazine, Asmussen shared the stories of the two men:
“What Jaffe talked about doing was – and I’m not sure how it would happen – basically, you destroy Greek mythology and then Norse mythology is right around the corner for Kratos to go after. It becomes clear at the end that he’s going to become this harbinger of death across different mythologies in the world and maybe carry the series on from there,” he said.
The director continued by making known how Cory Barlog, God of War II director wanted to complete the trilogy:
“Barlog talked about kratos becoming Death. He pretty much becomes the Grim Reaper at the end of the game and his blades becomes scythes.”
Asmussen said he liked both ideas but in order to be passionate about a story, he needed to have his own influence in there, and so he and his team forged a new path.
“They’re both incredibly good ideas, but you need a director to be passionate about a story and understand it intimately.
If I had used Jaffe or Barlog’s idea, I wouldn’t have been as passionate about it.”
So what do you guys think, Barlog or Jaffe’s idea, which was better?
I’ll go with Jaffe’s. It just sounds all the more radical imo.

id go with davids it has the most chance to take the series in other directions.
i really hated the story of GOW3 though, by far the worst of the series, and by far the worst part of GOW3.
it was suppose to close all gaps and explain what happens in greek mythology.
it was suppose to answer all questions, but all it did was raise more and answer none!!!
Yeah, I think david’s just makes more sense!
