Project Natal Is Xbox 360′s Saving Grace Says Bach

by Ernice Gilbert on May 26th, 2010, under News, Project Natal, Xbox 360

Many thought the Xbox 360 wouldn’t make it past six years, citing its hardware issues and the absence of other next generation capabilities like Blu-ray and the lack of 3D. But it’s almost six years now and the Xbox 360 is moving strong with talks of a slimmed down version to be unveiled at this year’s E3.

But according to Microsoft’s Head of E&D Robbie Bach, Natal is seen as a “mid-like kicker” for the venerable console.

“Well, I think initially it presents a great opportunity for us on Xbox,” he told TechFlash (via Gamasutra). “You know, if you think we have, what, close to 40 million consoles in the world, and every one of those consoles can work with Natal. So, there’s a tremendous opportunity from a business perspective to produce a new experience for people without shipping a new console.”

“I mean, that’s sort of the Holy Grail in many ways of the console world is how do you ship completely new game experiences without actually forcing everybody to start over again, and I think Natal certainly presents that opportunity.

So, for me it’s a jumpstart catalyst. It’s a midlife kicker for the 360, and it’s an opportunity to really drive that business in a dramatic way.”

Indeed. I’m not sure about your guys but I’m super excited to see what exactly Microsoft’s Project Natal will bring to the table in a revolutionary way. It’d better deliver.

Haha, you should really get a Wii, but not at the expense of your 360 man. They still got some exclusives you know…… Halo, Gears (probably not for long) Crackdown, Fable, Forza etc.

i may get one in july once tafe is on holidays and i have no more assignments due and once all the game releases slow down.
ive got alpha protocol, blur, red dead redemption, alan wake, mod nation racers, prince of persia the sands of time and split second to finish plus i have 2 tests to study for, and 3 programming assignments due soon.
thats why i hate june everything due then and im left running around like a headless chook to get things done.
