Gratitude: A Big Thank You To Game Developers, We Appreciate You

by Ernice Gilbert on May 21st, 2010, under Article, industry news

Gamers are a demanding crowd. Year after year developers work hard, harder than most other forms of entertainment to bring us what we want. For some reason we the gamers pay no mind to what goes on behind the scenes; all we’re interesting in is everything, and I mean everything being perfect. That’s a tall order considering how much effort, research, brainstorming and the likes that goes into making a great game.

But when last did we pause for a moment and really think about how much we take these developers for granted? And the thing is they never complain. Well I believe there’s a time for everything under the sun; and today I ask you to join me in saluting your favorite development team.

Do it after the read in the comments section but right now, we honor them:

First, thank you for choosing to make game development your lifelong career of choice, without you the greatest games in our history would not have been forged. On top of all that, thank you for working so hard not only to develop a title, but painstakingly you make sure that all the necessary ingredients are included so that the experience could at least be fun. Don’t let it ever cross your mind that we’re not grateful because we are. We brag about you all the time on forums, at home, and with our friends. We even catch fits and passionately defend when others uninformed and immature, say things we know are not true.

You are loved, you are respected and today we honor you. Your family too should be lauded; because they miss you, sometimes for months on end when you’re away at the studio working, or traveling the world promoting your games, or at industry events where attendance is mandatory. Yet still you make the sacrifice.

We’re sure many times you felt like throwing in the towel, but we’re here to encourage you not to quit! Ever. There are not enough events to honor you guys and gals, and so I think at least one more should be birthed.

It should be called “The Developers Gratitude Awards”. Think about it, unlike the other award shows that only recognize developers who have performed extremely well, this show would honor them for their continuous work. Sure there should be awards for outstanding efforts, but sometimes some of the most appealing work go unnoticed. This new honoring event would do that.

In the end we hope you feel appreciated, and if for whatever reason you don’t, we the gamers are sorry.

Now we say thank you to:

Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA, Activsion, THQ, Konami, Kojima Productions, Naughty Dog, Atari, Rare, NOA, NOJ, Remedy Entertainment, Epic Games, Insomniac Games, Sony Santa Monica, Bioware, Square-Enix, Valve, Rocksteady, Eidos Interactive, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Rockstar, Capcom, Techmo, Koei, Sucker Punch, Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Respawn Entertainment, Bethesda, Visceral Games, 2k Games, Atomic Games, Bungie, Codemasters, Crytek, Dice, Eat Sleep Play, Gas Powered Games, Lionhead Studios, Lucas Arts, Media Molecule, Mercury Steam, Platimun Games, Polyphony Digital, Quantic Dream, Sega, Sledgehammer, Team Bondi, Turn 10, Vigil Games, Warner Bros., Zipper Interactive and many more. I’m sure gamers around the world will join me now in saying a mighty loud Thank You!
