Last Week game developers the world over gathered in one place, the Games Developers Conference to talk about, promote and market their games. Now we know sex sells, but to bring strippers in a place packed with decent, professional people is more than outrageous, it’s a sign that whoever planned such a stunt is out of touch.
Activsion turned part of the San Fransisco W hotel into a rated NW for naked-women club dubbed “Club Bam Bam” with almost everything you’d find in a strip joint, the poles and yes dancing hot ladies. Since when did GDC became a place for girls shaking their behinds, clinging upside down with almost nothing on but their birthday suits?
Mind you they were not only dancing hot girls, they also approached guys, one of them being Ars Technica’s Ben Kuchera. It was an attractive Asia hottie he said, who was “most likely paid to speak to me”, the situation got uncomfortable and so he left.
“The game being promoted dealt with the Hong Kong triads, so using sex appeal to get that point across was, in some ways, appropriate,” the site wrote.
Seriously, if Activsion wants to get its porn point across, they should find another venue; why the hec would they choose GDC to pull such a stunt is beyond me.
This year unlike years past, the committee tried its best to emphasize that now more than ever, the event is one primarily for developers.
Did Activision received the memo? Tsk tsk tsk.
