Microsoft has officially responded to the NPD February video games sales results, and as expected the company spoke proud of its venerable console.
As we noted earlier, the February NPD results revealed that for the first time in three years, the Xbox 360 nabbed the number one spot selling 422K units, pushing Wii down to 2nd place. Microsoft is extremely pleased of course and has said in its official release that the February results has proven to be the “biggest month in Xbox 360 history”.
“Thanks to a stellar portfolio of exclusive blockbuster games, a fresh pipeline of new content on Xbox Live and high anticipation for controller-free gaming and entertainment with Project Natal for Xbox 360, I’m pleased to announce we had the biggest February in Xbox 360 history,” Chief Operating Officer, Dennis Durkin said.
“This month’s NPD results are a further proof point to what will be our biggest and best year in Xbox history.”
The PS3 however realized a 30 percent increase over last year in the same period, and the Wii is performing relatively well. The industry on a whole realized another month of decreased sales compared to the same time last year, so it’s a bag of mix chips indeed.
Microsoft must be encouraged by the way the Xbox 360 has performed, after all PS3 is on an excellent run with major exclusives like Heavy Rain and MAG just released, helping push the console to better sales numbers, yet the Xbox holds on strong.
A jump in PS3 sales is to be expected this month, with the incoming killer app, God of War III available next week Tuesday.

would of been much better if splinter cell conviction held its date, instead of being delayed for the 15 millionth time………
oh well i guess it gave mass effect 2 some time in the spotlight, and ubisoft some more time to polish the AI.
im really looking forward to conviction, what i saw at E3 last year really impressed me.
wonder if this will be supporting 3D like so many other PC games.
Have no idea if it’ll support PC Nick, but it’s one of my most anticipated 360 games save Alan Wake.
