NPD February VG Results: We Fall Down But We Get Up

The NPD Video Game Sales Numbers are out folks, and it’s a bag of mixed chips. PS3 realized a 30 percent increase in sales over last year, yet the industry suffered another month of decrease compared to 2009.

Xbox 360 went for the win nabbing the number 1 spot sending Wii down one notch to number 2. “DS sales continue to remain quite strong, even leading up to the launch of the Dsi XL later this month on March 28th, which will have 7 days of sales during our March reporting month.”

PS2 – 101.9 K

PS3 – 360.1 K

PSP – 133.4 K

Xbox 360 – 422.0 K

Wii – 397.9 K

DS – 613.2 K

On the software side of things, 2K’s Bioshock 2 came in at number one selling 750K units at retail across all platforms, with the 360 version coming in as the top seller. Modern Warfare 2 has become the third fastest selling game of all time; now just shy of 10 million units sold.

    I don’t think the Heavy Rain numbers are impressive considering how much that game cost to develop. Maybe it’ll be a slow burn title.

    It’s doing great worldwide however, so I guess that balances out things, but over $20 million was invested in said title’s development, I just hope they realize a profit, a decent one at that.

    Sony games are always slow burns. When the next cod comes out and MW2 sales start to slow, ppl will still be getting MAG. It’s true, I mean look at LBP. Still going strong. GOW3 may not be as huge a seller as it is being made out to be but will sell constantly each month.
