You should be aware of what happened to Ubisoft’s DRM over the weekend, it went down and rendered two of the publisher’s games: Assassin’s Creed II and Silent Hunter V unplayable for some users.
See, the company implemented an immensely unpopular new form of digital rights that essentially forces PC gamers to maintain an internet connection even when playing a single player game offline. Yeah you read that correctly… But if you’re going to do something like that, you had better darn well make sure your house is in order. Well, over the weekend, Ubisoft’s house was breached, and PC gamers? They’re ticked the hec off!
To this day, users are having issues saving games, downloading games and in some cases can’t play the two aforementioned titles.
The publishing giant has responded by saying, “clearly the extended downtime and lengthy login issues are unacceptable”, and that the downtime is due to “exceptional demand,” this according to Ubi’s community managers.
So now pirates are bypassing the DRM and having a field day playing games while customers are the ones affected?
Valve’s Gabe Newell in a video interview with Good Game, explained how DRM increases piracy and how focusing on customers is the best way to go. I suggest Ubi take out pen and pad; learn some things…
Quench your thirst.

Silent Hunter, not Silent Hill.
Fixed. Must have been thinking of Silent Hill, silly mistake. Thanks!
And welcome, feel free to share your thoughts on the other threads!
The forbidden will always be more attractive, with that in mind I think he’s right about DRM increasing the pirate activity, the new “anti-pirate” system was cracked with less than one day of it’s release, if people like a game they will buy it, unless it’s on pc, then it’s all good FREE GAMES WOOO!
this is why i have infinite respect for valve, and its also why they are and always will be the worlds best developer.
they actually care about their games, they do not give a 2 hoots about cash as long as there happy with their game thats all they care about.
ubisoft have gone greedy and am saying a massive f you to their fans just to try and prevent pirates.
valve would NEVER! do that, they care about their PC community unlike almost every other developer.
thats why i love valve they treat their fans like fans, they are true to their fans and will never back stab them.
ubisoft if you dont want to become the new activision i suggest you take out a pen and paper and start taking notes.
otherwise your going to develop a large hate community like activision has and thats going to hurt you for life.
