Sony: Final Fantasy Is A PlayStation Franchise, “Best On PS3 Blu-ray”

by Ernice Gilbert on March 9th, 2010, under Square-Enix

It seems Final Fantasy XIII has been under development forever, 4 years will make anything feel like forever. But it’s all over now, the game’s out in the west and Square-Enix felt the need to celebrate; I would too.

Since then, we’ve seen what was once a PS3 exclusive also lay in bed with the Xbox 360 which is a good thing; let gamers enjoy the game. And so last night Microsoft congratulated the company for doing just that.

Only Square-Enix could bring such a throng of developers together in the same room talking about all things Final Fantasy, a night filled with awkward bliss. Indeed, the devs gathered with the Square giants couldn’t help but feel overshadowed, submitting the truth that somehow, for some reason they just can’t seem to match the company’s skills – no matter how hard the efforts invested.

In the room was Cerny Games’ Mark Cerny, Gas Powered Games’ Chris Taylor, Microsoft’s Corrinne Yu, and Obsidian’s Feargus Urquhart, a power pack in truth but by their own admission pale in the shadows of Enix – people.

It was a night fit for stars, red carpet entrance for key producers and voice actors, the game’s new trailer on display, PS3s all over the place – one must admit the celebration was well deserved.

Later that night, things got all the more awkward, as mentioned earlier a Microsoft spokesperson took the stage hailing the publishing giant for bringing over the respected franchise to 360, followed by a Sony spokesperson who said that Final Fantasy is a PlayStation Franchise and that the latest installment is the “best on PS3″ – on a single Blu-ray disc – the way it was meant to be played.

Can you imagine the uncomfortable feeling? Yeah. The crowd however came alive with applause and cheers; quite a night wouldn’t you say? One to remember for years.

There’s an awesome photo gallery highlighting the night’s events, view them through the Joystiq link up there.
