Rumor Thirst: Infinity Ward Has Received No Royalties For Modern Warfare 2

BingeGamer is reporting that Activision hasn’t paid the developer behind Modern Warfare 2, the highest grossing game of all time, a black cent. Nothing.

According to the article, sources “associated with Activision” says the royalties issue could be one of the reasons for the massive debacle that occurred this morning at Infinity Ward’s studio, which eventually led to a full lock out of the its staff.

Also, Infinity Ward has apparently been fishing for a deal with a new publisher, although it was purchased by Activision in 2003.

The other big reveal out of all this is talk that Infinity Ward has been trying to block any other studio from developing the Modern War series, since it partly owns the Call of Duty franchise with Activision.

Infinity Ward is contracted to Activision as a developer in an agreement that lasts until October of this year according to the article, which explains why the studio might have been shopping around for a new home.

Latest noise we heard was Modern Warfare 3 would not be developed by IW, instead Activision upstart, Sledgehammer, founded by ex-Visceral Bosses, Glen schofield and Michael Condery would handle the project.

We’ll keep you posted.
