This is good news, since many a gamer still want to enjoy their expensive consoles for at least 4 more years. Speaking to GI, the guys behind Alan Wake supports the notion, they believe developers are in “no hurry” to transit into the next generation of consoles.
“I think all the developers out there – or most of us at least – we’re absolutely in no hurry to move onto a new console cycle,†said managing director of the studio, Matias Myllyrine. “There are still things that we can do with the current generation of hardware for the 360 and PlayStation 3.
“We have a healthy installed base, and gamers have gotten a lot of the services that they wanted from stuff like Live and so forth. I don’t think a leap is called for – especially with Natal and the other devices coming out, hopefully that will extend the life cycle.â€
Managing director of Remedy, Matias Myllyrine, also confirmed that since last year the game was completed, however due to post-production polishing, it was delayed.
“We had the whole game fully playable around E3 last year, and we’ve just been balancing, tuning, polishing and iterating in post-production since,†he said. “Games are fairly expensive, and if you put down €60, the Remedy brand has to stand for something – otherwise people aren’t going to come back.â€
Buy Alan Wake in the US on May 18th and on the 21st of the same month in the UK. It’s been five years and counting under construction, hope it’s good. I really hope so.

Yeah its going to easily be a ten year cycle this gen, should have new consoles by 2015 and this helps developers immensly they dont have to rebuild their game engines evry 5 years. I’m just wondering how much next gen will cost I’m betting on 600-700 range easily as the processors will be lighting fast and maybe even be quad processors next gen
I’m still thinking that we’ll see new consoles in about 2 years. I know Sony, and Microsoft will remain tight lipped and won’t speculate much if at all until a month or two before there big reveal at a upcoming E3. Everyone knows there already working on the next hardware (it would be foolish if they weren’t). I think Natal and Arc might add an extra year to the usual 5 year console cycle but that’s it. Remedy may not be ready and a lot of other devs… But I’m sure on the other hand there’s a lot of devs that can’t wait to work on new hardware. I think it’s going to be different this time around and if the big 3 companies are smart they’ll have download only service like the psp go. The consumer could potentially lower hardware costs by eliminating a bluray drives etc… anyways just my thoughts
Good thoughts indeed, and although we don’t expect to see nothing at least in the next two years…
You must admit, it’s exciting whenever new hardware is released.
