Rockstar knows how to advertise, and apparently knows a lot of people. Red Dead Redemption, the westerner that’s due a release on April 27th, has not been the recipient of what we call ‘viral advertising’. You know, this thing that happens on the web where sites (like what we’re doing with Heavy Rain), take it upon themselves to promote a certain title or titles. Think God of War III, Halo: Reach, Mass Effect 2 etc.
Well, the viral vibe for RRD is kinda dead now, and it needs your attention. Don’t worry, Rockstar’s not leaving all the work to website enthusiasm, no, go to New York City, pass by the corner of Canal & Greene and witness advertising at its finest.
Pics after the click.
Continuing a tradition of the company, Rockstar has plastered a giant poster of Red Dead Redemption on Canal & Greene which is just a few blocks away from its New York office. Chinatown Wars and GTAIV also got the same treatment and by the way, it sure looks effective.
So what’s your take on this one, will you buy? Or you’re just not into westerners? Share your thoughts.
Merci, Kotaku.

Now imagine a graphic of this size for GOW III…
On the topic of advertising – did you see the ad in the SI Swimsuit 2010 for bringing the beauties to your PS3 and PSP? Nice work.
I played the first game, and really enjoyed it. I thought the quick-draw game was a lot of fun. It’s been many years since then, 5+ I think? I don’t even know!
My main issue, I’m sure some parent/media person already thinks bad of the game, because of the title involving the word, “DEAD”. So, I really don’t know if this is a good way to advertise what will probably end up being a Mature rated game.
This is like my dream game a shooter set in the west back in the 1800′s where you play a cowboy and set in a sandbox style gameplay. I can not wait for april this game is going to be awesome so many side missions mini games and while riding in between towns you can either hunt down critters or bandits. Red Dead Redemption is going to be insane and I can’t wait to give it a test out.
