Pachter is on the move folks. First it’s Epic’s regret that they signed an exclusive deal so Gears of War could remain available only on Xbox 360 and now this: He believes Nintendo will drop Wii HD like a bombshell on us this year.
“It’s unlike Nintendo to go this long without a gameplay innovation, and my guess is that they have something planned for launch within the next 12 – 18 months,” Pachter said after a recent interview from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in which the boss also confirmed that his company’s next handheld will also have motion control technology.
“A motion sensing DS is quite logical, given the success of the iPod Touch as a gaming device. I presume that they will give us something with the memory and controls of the DS and the fun motion-sensing chip included in the iPod Touch, and assume it is for launch in the fall.”
Pachter later added: “I think the biggest surprise will be the introduction of the WiiHD.”
Really? This year? I’m sure Nintendo will make available a more powerful system in the not to distant future; but if it’s this year, that would be big news indeed. Bombshell even.

If Nintendo sticks with their console release schedule from years past, the earliest a new console to be released should be 2011.
From the SNES through the Wii, it was every 5 years.
1991, 1996, 2001, 2006.
The only six year gap, was from the NES to the SNES.
Tough to say if they’ll drop it this year. If they do decide to drop it, they better drop it right before the holiday craziness starts to eke out the most sales. I could see it being dropped either before christmas or early spring next year definetly going to be interesting to see what wii games look like in hd and how far they advance their games to output in hd. By the way that black wii is very sexy but why is Nintendo changing their colors now, I seen they also made one of their game cases black too maybe to emulate playstation. Only time will tell.
It will be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out.

You’re right, but recently all the rules have changed.
Opportunity is the new rule now, and if a window is right for release, then for sure, the tradition will be forgotten to accommodate profit.
