PS3 Motion Controller Delayed Till Fall 2010

It almost seemed impossible that Sony would be able to release its Motion Controller this spring as Kaz Hirai said last year, especially when you take into consideration all else the company has going on with the PS3 at the moment. Including the system’s stellar lineup in said season and the fact that the giant might want to add more games to the motion controller’s roster, not surprising.

“We have decided to release the Motion Controller in fall 2010 when we will be able to offer an exciting and varied lineup of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users,” Kaz Hirai, Sony Computer Entertainment head said.

“We will continue to work to have a comprehensive portfolio of attractive and innovative games for the motion controller, not only from SCE worldwide studios but from third party developers and publishers, whom we have been working closely with.

“We look forward to soon unveiling the exciting software lineup that further expands and defines the PS3 platform as the ultimate entertainment system of the home.”

The company added that it’s plan is to “vigorously promote the motion controller as the de facto controller of the PS3 platform along with the DUALSHOCK series controller” and “will employ various measures to enhance the software title lineup for the Motion Controller, delivering groundbreaking interactive entertainment only possible on the PS3 platform.”

I personally think it’s a good move, although getting it out before Project Natal might have been a great idea: jump in and grab market share before Microsoft can. But that too can be damaging, especially if you don’t have no good software to release alongside the Motion Controller.

What do you guys think? Good move?

I agree with you too Ernice, I think it’s a good move because yeah they could have gotten a head start on natal but they would have had no games to bundle with it. Plus they would’ve released right in the thick of some amazing Q1 games coming out GOW3, Heavy Rain, etc. and it would have lagged behind the press of all those games. Now if they were really smart they would bundle the eye toy and “arc or gem”(did they settle yet on name?) and an awesome motion control game along the lines of a wii sports and release that right before holiday craziness kicks off. I personally don’t think it’s gonna sell like hotcakes but give it a year or two and some blockbuster games and I think it will do well enough especially if the ps3 keeps selling well like it is.
