Feeling Nostalgic? These 6 Xbox And PS2 Games Should Quench Your Thirst

We are humans and humans have mood swings; sometimes you’re up, other times you hit rock bottom. One moment you’re laughing your heart out and in an instance notice you’re yelling your guts out at someone or something.

And understandably so, circumstances change, nothing remains the same; it’s the same with games: There are times when all you want to do is blast your way to victory in Modern Warfare 2, or, hack-n-slash enemies on your path to meet the gods – Kratos-style. But what about the not-so-old games, don’t you ever get this urge, this feeling, a desire comes flooding the gates of your soul, seeking access to satisfy a desire? I’m talking about the Xbox and PS2 titles you just simply loved. You couldn’t get enough of them.

Well go dig in that closet, dust off your PS2 or Xbox (which ever one you own), Let’s take a joyride together: Here are 6 games to satisfy your soul:

Xbox 360

3 -Fable

One of the most intriguing and involving games to hit any console, Fable is a RPG packed with action, where every decision made is a critical one.

You create your own life story from childhood to death, in fact your decisions are so important, they don’t only determine your skills and reputation, they also dictate your appearance. We see games taking this route more often today, a great example is inFamous by Sucker Punch.

Muscles expand with each feat of strength. Force of will increase with each work of wit, the game is so involving that you’d not want to miss any of the cutscenes; details that are extremely important might be missed, therefore paying attention to the story is paramount. It’s a tale of good and evil, who will you be? Choose wisely.

So If you truly want to get those xbox nostalgic juices flowing again, then by means pop in Fable.

2 – Ninja Gaiden

One of the great experiences on Xbox that lead to sequels on other platforms including the Xbox 360 because of its success. The journey did not begin on the Xbox though, it began in earnest as a two-player arcade beat-’em-up in 1988. Since then, the franchise has appeared on Nintendo’s NES with two games, and now Xbox, PS2, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Ninjai Gaiden is really one of the titles that’ll conjure up great memories while playing, although the game is action filled, it has way more depth that just brainlessly fighting your way through hordes of enemies to victory: You gradually acquire new abilities, there are always valuable items to be had on your journey, there are shops where you can purchase useful goods, slowly gaining access to the game’s world.

With over 15 chapters to play, get the popcorn and whatever you feel like drinking, because Ninja Gaiden on Xbox 360 was, and still is a great game to play.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance

Honestly, I’m not too sure there are many other titles that’ll quench your nostalgic thirst like the Metal Gear Solid series of games. Seriously. The stories alone will make you feel like starting from scratch on the PS1, which was graced with the first title. But back to Xbox and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, because it was THE experience to behold on said system.

Just like Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty on PS2, Substance lets Xbox owners experience one of the most intriguing and talked about games ever made. There are additional features, most recognizable a series of no less than 500 “VR training missions” that let you explore the painstaking moments of the game. So much to talk about in this title.

As noted before, it’s basically the same as Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty on the PS2 but with added features, and if you’ve ever played that game, you’ll know it’s one of the best forged. Come on, get two snakes, kill and boil them; eat my friend, as you take on Vamp, Liquid and Solidus amongst others in this high action, story driven thrill-a-minute ride. (“kill two snakes” part’s a joke btw) : )

PS2

So many titles, so little time, we chose three of them, but this does not mean (obviously) that the ones we chose are the only games you should dust off that old PS2 for; however they’re three of the best choices:

Devil May Cry

Ah Dante, you came on the scene sneakily; we all knew about your arrival but we didn’t expect to have such an experience. It was new, it was fresh, it was great and awesome. You set the standard, and games like the God of War franchise, Dante’s Inferno, Darksiders and yes, Bayonetta have followed in your path.

Such an over-the-top action packed, hack-n-slash demon slaying joy-ride. His moves were and still are second to none, the story was not very deep but good enough to keep you interested to the end, the stages were properly crafted and the boss battles were indeed epic. You’re still here? Go on friend, pass a soft cloth on that disc, and free Dante to rule again.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

The first Metal Gear title is my favorite of all time. Snake Eater comes in second place and for good reason. Instead of propelling into the future following Sons of Liberty, Kojimasan took sometime out to detail the events that lead to where the game was back then.

But don’t be fooled, the plot is awesome, the battles are amazing (grand), and as for the graphics, they’re some of the best you’ll witness on the PS2. In Snake Eater, patience was a virture; sure you could run and gun to way to victory, but that’d be after you’ve died many deaths. Instead hone your stealth skills and enjoy this game, while you uh….eat snakes?

Final Fantasy X

I might get stoned for saying what about to now but: In my opinion, Final Fantasy X gives Final Fantasy VII great competition for the best ever made. Yes, I know opinions vary, but can anyone in his/her right mind deny the greatness of this game? Is there a better story around? Can we really out-pace Yuna and the gang with the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII? Oh yes Final Fantasy X or VII can always be bettered in the future, but to this day, it has not happened.

The game made you proud to be a PS2 owner, like your investment was well worth it. Some of the most gorgeous graphics were forged, awesome gameplay and EPIC conclusion. No wonder it’s one of the best selling among the pack.

Get your game on today on PS2 with Final Fantasy X, you won’t regret it, hec it’s the best way to prepare for the next installment anyway……

I lol’ed at “Come on, get two snakes, kill and boil them; eat my friend, as you take on Vamp, Liquid and Solidus amongst others in this high action, story driven thrill-a-minute ride.” Metal Gear Solid is one of the older franchises that is still around from the ps1 heydays and I can remember playing the first one on ps1 and it being so revolutionary at the time with it’s stealth play that has since been the grandfather of many modern day stealth games.
