Good points supra5mge, I think your opinion has a lot of merits and yes indeed, sometimes change can be a good, even great thing.

However there are certain instances when things do need to change, and sometimes, instead of change, it's best if they evolve. Wada's statement was not referring to the evolution of Final Fantasy, but rather a total reboot; that's scary to say the least.

I mean, what would they do with the franchise? what I'd say is do things to innovate, but don't change the game altogether..... It would be like having a wife and because you don't like some things about her you decide to let her go, in essence you release her to get another woman, when all you had to do is sit together and discuss how thins could work out. See my point?

I must first say this in order for what I will be saying to be understood. I too am a huge FF fan. From the first one on I have been hooked and love every one in different ways. I must say though that when I heard those words I couldn't agree more. Why, you ask? I honestly think it has to do with being "burnt out" on the same basic premise. I am looking forward to 13 but I am keeping my own personal hype to a minimum. They do need to evolve along with the core audience.
Instead of fearing change we should embrace it and trust that square will change for the good. You must admit that the quality has been lacking this generation. Star Ocean 4, Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery have for me been dissapointments. Bad english dubbing and archaic controls first and foremost. Actually those games would make a good counterpoint against my argument to trust in their ability to change.
Maybe I am expecting to have the same feeling I had when, in Final Fantasy 6, I saw the mechs walking off toward that village with that epic music and then mind blowing graphics. I am hoping that once I get 13 in my PS3 all of this worry and doubt about Squares current state will be forgotten and I can once again feel as I did so long ago.
I am not trying to hate here, just want to generate a good discussion. Please pardon my bad grammar! :)

Ever since Yoichi made that comment I've been feeling the same way.

Why change a formula that has worked for so long?

I don't know why everybody feels the need to move into the "Modern" realm.. Some games need it because of the genre, others don't. Final Fantasy is one of them.
