You know what? Let’s get something straight: The PS3’s hardware is more advance than Xbox 360, that’s something we all can agree on, but that does not mean the Xbox 360 is maxed out; not by a long shot. Year after year the same claim is being made, yet year in and year out developers continue to push the boundaries on the Xbox 360.
Bioware had something to say about this issue recently, the company still believes that there’s still a lot of juice left in the 360, going as far as denying that the system has reached its full potential:
“For this game, we’ve squeeze even more out of the Xbox 360,” Mass Effect 2 producer Adrien Cheng said. “Mass Effect 1 when it came out I think represented this watershed moment; it was a benchmark, it was really innovative in many ways. But we knew at that time there were many ways in which we could improve, it’s just time limitations. So given two more years of development time our artists engineers and programmers have learnt how to extract more out of the engine.

“Have we peaked? No. I was the technical artist on the first game and what we do is build things a lot smarter to avoid some of those issues like texture pop-in in the sequel. But I don’t think we’ve reached that ceiling yet; there’s actually a lot more power that we can get out of the 360.”
Bioware is an awesome development studio responsible for many great titles including the awesome Dragons Age: Origins. The PS3 port was identical to that of the Xbox 360 and the game in question is also one of the best looking this generation.

Other developers have been asked the same question and the answer seem to be identical, yes there’s more power in the Xbox 360 to make their games even better. No one is doubting the power of the awesome PS3; but when talk is spreading like wildfire, especially if it’s incorrect, then someone has to kill it, and that’s exactly what we’ve set out to do. Kill it dead.
If a development studio like Bioware can come out and say that there’s still plenty room left to make their games even better on 360, who am I to contend? I’ll stick with the experts thank you.

I’m really happy that somebody finally decide to put this issue to rest.
I know the PS3 is powerful but the last time I checked, my Xbox 360 games looked and played just as good; and that’s coming from someone with a PS3 also.
Both systems are awesome.
Yep, DA:O is identical on both systems ands its also one of the best loooking. Yep , i want also Your 360Googles supported by pink glasses, rotfl.
The Xbox 360 is definetly not maxed out, just as the PS3 has not yet been maxed out. However when certain websites argue that the 360 has reached it’s potential i think they mean in comparison to the PS3. Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 are two of the most visually impressive games of all time and when people say “360 is maxed out.” i think what they mean to say is “360 will never do Uncharted 2 graphics.” which is a different story alltogether.
Alan Wake is trying hard to push the graphical boundries on the Xbox 360, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and The Last Guardian are doing the same for the PS3.
I know the 360 isn’t maxed out as such but i believe the time when the 360 could almost compete with PS3 graphics is at an end. Facts are facts, for the past 2 years in a row it has been a PS3 exclusive that has been given the “Best Graphics” award at the VGA’s and i wouldn’t be surprised if 2010 continued that trend. Xbox 360 games can definetly look better…..however they’ll never look as good as PS3 exclusives, i think that’s the argument people are trying to make.
in reply to newyearnewrule,
just because the multiplatform ports to the ps3 are garbage doesnt mean the ps3 sucks. as david just mentioned look at killzone2 and uncharted 2. the xbox has a better graphics card and easier system to work with. only reason y most multiplatform games are better looking on the xbox 360. but there are some that the ps3 has better, like prince of persia and mirrors edge.
in reply to the article, id like to see them make a game as good looking as uncharted 2. i dont think they can but somewheres close.
Q:Who Said Xbox 360 Is Maxed Out?
A:PS3 Fanboys!
I own both systems and I’m not trying to start any guff but the truth is that the only ones who were saying that the 360 was maxed were PS3 fanatics.
I own both systems and I say that it’s maxed out,
no 360 game showed anything surprising graphically since Gears of War 2 over a year ago, while the PS3 raises the tech bar every few months (first MGS4, then Killzone 2, then Uncharted 2, up next Heavy Rain, after that God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5),
neither Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell Conviction or Crackdown 2 look better than Gears of War 2, they all look like good, big budget games but none of them have the WOW factor that the early Gears 2 vids had, actually far from it
explain to me why is that if it’s not because it’s maxed out?
