There’s this big misconception out in the wild that games made exclusively for the PS3 don’t sell. That’s a sad lie and we have seven pieces of evidence to prove it:
Metal Gear Solid: Guns Of The Patriots:
What is arguably the best game on the PS3, developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami is one of the best selling titles on any platform and the best selling exclusive game on the PlayStation 3 entertainment system. The game was released worldwide on June 12, 2008 coming exactly ten years after Metal Gear Solid made its debut on PS1. MGS: Guns of The Patriots has sold 4.75 million units in the fiscal year of 2009.
Not only that, but the game was critically acclaimed garnering perfect scores from major gaming sites and was honored Game of The Year from several major publications.
Resistance: Fall of Man:
Developed by Insomniac Games, Resistance: Fall of Man was a PS3 launch title and not only did the game showed off what the PS3 was capable of from the onset but it was also the first title to feature a 40 player online competitive mode. The Game also received critical praise from major gaming publications, with GameInformer giving it a 9.5 out of 10
The game went on to sell well passed 3 million copies, an incredible accomplishment especially when the PS3’s install base was so miniscule.
LittleBigPlanet:
Ah, the game that took the gaming world by surprise, never before has a puzzle platformer video game garnered such high praise, especially one that gives users the freedom to create their own content. The game was developed under the title “next big thing” by Media Molecule and published by SCE.
LBP as of two months ago passed the 2.5 million copies sold mark, and the sales keep trickling in.
Final Fantasy XIII:
Now you might be thinking why in God’s earth is Final Fantasy XIII on this list, well the game is still a PS3 exclusive in Japan; it has become the best selling PS3 title there, selling almost two million copies on launch week. Think about it, the PS3’s install base is about 4 million in Japan so for a game to sell half the install base of any console is really something, and people say PS3 owners don’t buy games? Beats me.
Final Fantasy XIII will hit the west on March 9 of this year and many expect it to sell better on PS3 than Xbox 360, we’ll have to wait and see.
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune:
Remember this game? Of course you do, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was awesome in its day and is awesome now, no doubt. The game still looks and plays better than many of the titles that game out years after it. It was originally announced at E3 2006 and was under development for two years before it was released at the end of 2007.
The title was hailed as being one of the best looking games and having the best dialogue between characters by GameInformer and as of now, almost 3 million copies have been sold. another testament to the success PS3 exclusives have had.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves:
I chose to conclude this article with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves because it is the latest PS3 exclusive to hit the market and from what we’ve seen, might end up being the best selling on the PS3. The game came out in October and has already shot passed the one million mark steadily climbing towards two million. If the game continues with such momentum, over it’s lifetime, it could easily pass 4 million copies sold, placing it at the same level in sales as the stellar Metal Gear Solid: Guns of The Patriots.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the most praised game to date; virtually every major publication gave the game high honors, at the VGAs it won game of the Year, at metacritic it stands at 9.6 and we gave it 10/10.
PS3 exclusive games sell and sell very well, and when you factoring the ever expanding install base, things could only get better from here.

I know 360 exclusives are not good games……i know 360 exclusives have never won a GOTY award and most likely never will win a GOTY award but to be so desperate that the only thing you have to brag about is Kung Fu Panda??? LOL……360 owners are really at the bottom of the well when it comes to bragging rights now.
lets be far, xbox 360 has good exlusives just not many. and it seems they wont push too hard in that area anymore. as they are benefitting with major multiplatform sales. so y pay more for games? they will simply make more exclusive DLC timed(i.e fallout 3) or full(i.e. gta4)
I think when people say they don’t sell, they are looking at first week sales. As much as UC2 was talked about, many would think UC2 should/would of sold a million plus the first week. It seem they do sell, just it takes time before they reach the sell numbers many feel they should reach earlier.
Regardless of the system you play, you can’t go wrong. What gamer wouldn’t want both system’s?
I’d like to have both xbox and ps3 but since I have buck$ only for one I go with the $ony one rather than the M$.
