Sony and Microsoft both have very different ideas about how gaming should be done. A relationship between the two would never work, just like the relationship between Sony and Nintendo was always destined to break down. The 3 companies have all brought something to the table and competition in the industry is best for just about everybody.

Interesting read.

If recent examples have taught us anything (Microsoft+Windows) its that competition is good for the industry. Many of the exclusives that you talk about are a result of one company trying to out-do the other in terms of gameplay,graphics,etc. Competition breeds innovation, if there was a giant MicroSony, think about the consequences (yikes!).

While this may seem like a “dream come true” this would be the worst monopolization of the games industry and antitrust issues would surely rise. Competition is why we have so many great games to play. Without MS and Sony at each others throats we would be stuck with subpar games. Think about it.

There are good and bad behind it. But I fear what would happen is some games might of never been made. Some studios might not of been created and others be broken apart.Then who would make the console? Both Sony and MS have had issues with their consoles. MS made a good xbox but did bad on the 360. Sony has PS2 issues but did a better job on the PS3. The writer made some good points but have to then come up with the bad side of Sony and MS joining forces.

I can be both good and bad, while many argue that innovation might be choked, there’s a great possibilty it might not.

Although this may never happen, as you said, it’s a good fantasy thought : )
